Okay ive done my research and here is what i have comp up with..
Silicon.-
Silicon protects from scratches on contact and dropping. It will not protect from dents. Also, with a silicon case, its really annoying to take it out and put it in your pocket/othe rplace for the silicon sticks and wont slide. Also, silicon cases arent very tight, so dirt/dust/other matericals build up and end up scratching your ipod touch. Overall, i say silicon isn't a very good option...
Leather-
haha well it might look nice, and protect your case...never really researched leather
Hard plastic-
Your best bet!!!! Comes in great colors, and they protect from all harm. For dropping, leather would get worn out, and silicon cant protect from dents. So hard plastic can do practically everything to protect it!

From all the portable electronic devices I've had over the years I've found that almost all protective cases/coatings are pretty crappy. The best product that I have found is the Invisible Shield by Zagg. Check out Zagg.com

i would say either silicon or hard plastic. i would recommend the silicon one . get the ones that are really thick. also get a screen protector or your gonna scratch your ipod touchscreen.
