search your pc model# and see if there is an online manual or specs. If you are gonna install a new drive, you gotta open the case anyways.How to tell the type of internal Hard drive without opening the casing?
Hello,

most desktops have 3.5'; drives

most laptops have 2.5';

Most newer computers have SATA drives.

If you use www.google.com to search for your computer specs it may have the type of drive in there.

For Example

';HP Compaq 6730b specifications';

tells me it has a SATA hard drive.
